Together with the citizens of Elefsina, Motus Terrae and Dcalk, will co-design a cards game. A game that would invite players to express and share their opinion on various aspects of public space; not only statements, but local stories and prospective narratives, as well.

Public space: a shared concern

At first sight, one could ask, what a Greek organization from the performing arts domain and a French one focusing on game culture, do have in common?

Motus Terrae is using performative tools for an applied research on public space, through collaborative projects engaging local dynamics. The French collective Dcalk, since 2011, underlines critical content in games and explores ways of creating, crafting and distributing games in digital & public space.

The two organizations combine their skills, methods, resources and contexts to explore new approaches on the subject of public space, through a common project.

Thanks to the Tandem Europe program that supports experimental collaborations between cultural change makers from the EU member states, Motus Terrae based in Elefsina and Dcalk from Tours are «tandeming» in 2016, in both cities, to set up the EleusisBox Project.

First phase (Dcalk placement in Elefsina, April 2016):

Through a variety of activities (presentation, game evening, 3-day workshop) the project’s team will meet the citizens and design collaboratively the EleusisBox prototype. All elements of the co-creative process (texts, images etc) will be archived in an offline digital library.

Second phase (Motus Terrae placement in Tours, October 2016):

After a period of testing the prototype, Motus Terrae will visit Dcalk in Tours to finalize EleusisBox and explore its performative aspect.

EleusisBox release, the cards game and portable library, will take place in Elefsina during spring 2017.

Dcalk will display its Ludobox: a collection of print ’n play games (cards game, backgammon, chess game etc.). Everyone is invited to discover and copy different games in greek, french & english. Come on and play!

3-DAY WORKSHOP: Co-designing a cards game on public space
Motus Terrae & Dcalk are inviting all Elefsina’s citizens, students, cultural operators and associations to join the collaborative design process: your opinion & vision of public space, your knowledge & memories of Elefsina, your creativity & talent… are the starting point!
